History isn't just something that happened in the past. It's the reason the world looks the way it does today. The borders on your map, the laws in your country, the phrases you use without thinking almost everything around you has a story behind it. And sometimes they have remarkable, surprising, or shocking stories.

Hoodie History exists to tell those stories.

I'm Michael, an Australian history enthusiast who loves to explore the stories of the past from all over the world. Not as dry recitations of dates and dynasties, but as the vivid, human, often stranger-than-fiction narratives they actually are.

So I put on a hoodie and started Hoodie History to share the wonder of the world’s history with you.

Every piece of content I create here, whether it’s an episode, a short video, a newsletter edition, is built around exploring: what actually happened, and why does it matter? I dig into the research, I find the details that don't make it into textbooks, and I try to bring you into the story the way a good novelist would except everything I'm telling you is real. I aim to share the most accurate versions of history that are available.

The topics range across centuries and continents. Lost treasures. Political conspiracies. Extraordinary individuals that history nearly forgot. Scientific breakthroughs that changed everything. Battles, betrayals, and unlikely heroes. If it's a genuinely remarkable story from the past, it's something I’ll explore here at Hoodie History.

What you'll find here

The Hoodie History podcast is the heart of what I do deep dive episodes running around thirty minutes each, long enough to do justice to a story that deserves more than a headline. Each episode is researched carefully and told conversationally to try and help history feel like a conversation not a lecture.

Alongside the podcast I publish short-form history videos on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube bite-sized stories designed to stop you mid-scroll and make you think: how did I not know about this?

And this newsletter is where the community lives. It's where I share the details that didn't quite make it into the videos, the aspects from my research that kept me up thinking, and whatever historical rabbit hole I've fallen down most recently.

Why Hoodie History?

Because history deserves to be approachable. Because the best stories in the world don't require a university degree to appreciate they just need to be told well. And because somewhere out there is a story from hundreds of years ago that might just make you see the world differently.

That's what I'm here to find.

And I'm glad you're here too.
